At the Black Screen Office, we know that powerful stories don’t happen without strong systems behind them. That’s where Rowan Acromond, our Operations & Finance Manager, comes in.
Rowan keeps BSO running smoothly by managing our operational and programming budgets, tracking accounts, and forecasting cash flows. She also supports HR, helps run meetings, and makes sure all the moving parts of BSO stay aligned. In her words:
“Being at the BSO has given me the opportunity to be a part of changing the narrative and supporting my community.”
Rowan’s journey into this role began with training alongside our Finance Consultant, Ananya Ohri. That experience gave her the tools and confidence to take the lead on operations and finances. Today, she’s focused on making BSO even more efficient and future-ready.

Why She’s Here
After starting her career in film and television production and development, Rowan saw first-hand the roadblocks that POC creators face: being dismissed as *“too expensive,” “too niche,” or “too inexperienced.” Joining BSO gave her a way to push back against those limiting narratives and champion Black creators on a bigger scale.Excited About the Future
Rowan is particularly energized by the CRTC’s recent decision requiring streamers to invest in the Canadian media industry. She sees this as a chance for more collaboration, more jobs, and more economic growth for Canada.Beyond the Desk
Rowan is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and an orange belt in Judo—disciplines that have become more than just hobbies. Competing around the world, she even won the IBJJF Pan American Championships in Florida while still a white belt. And when she’s not on the mats, you’ll probably find her relaxing with her favourite comfort show, Below Deck or any of the Real Housewives shows.Looking Ahead
For Rowan, being part of BSO means contributing to lasting change in the industry and helping to shape a future where Black stories are not overlooked but celebrated.
