When you meet Nesta, BSO’s Programming Assistant, you’ll notice right away how she blends detail-oriented organization with a strong creative streak. From running the Office Hours program and coordinating with mentors and mentees, to adding design touches to BSO events, she plays a key role in keeping the programming side of BSO running smoothly.
Finding Her Place at BSO
A Black student studying Arts and Media Management at the University of Toronto—and an artist herself—Nesta was drawn to BSO because it offered something she’d been searching for: a space where Black creatives are recognized and celebrated. For her, the role is more than just work. It’s a chance to grow, learn, and connect with the industry she aspires to join.
A Standout Moment
For Nesta, one highlight has been helping with the BSO Symposium. Seeing the way the event brought people together and sparked meaningful conversations gave her a new perspective on collaboration. “That experience really shaped how I think about community-based work,” she reflects.
Beyond the Job
Nesta’s creativity doesn’t stop at BSO. She’s a powerlifter and intermediate boxer, and she keeps her artistic side alive through portraiture, digital art, and 3D printing. She also crochets bags, pouches, and clothes. And when she needs a break? She’s recently been hooked on The Rookie.
What BSO Means to Her
Being part of BSO is both personal and professional for Nesta. It’s about helping to build a community where Black creatives are supported and celebrated, while also continuing her own journey as a student and artist. “It feels like being part of change,” she says.
