Established in 2020 the Black Screen Office (BSO) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to make Canada’s screen industries practices and policies equitable and free of anti-Black racism; to work collaboratively with decision-makers to develop tools and strategies that enable system-level engagement and accountability; and to empower Black Canadians working within the screen industries to thrive and share their stories.  BSO is unapologetically Black, by and for Black Canadians.
 
Manager of Operations and Programming
 

We are looking for a candidate who holds values of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and is knowledgeable about these issues.

We’re looking for a Manager of Operations and Programming who would be excited to join a progressive, fun team and help us grow during a critical early phase of the organization’s life. Reporting to the Executive Director you will shape day-to-day processes, lead improvements in our organizational practices, develop our business and financial sustainability strategies.

Your contributions:
Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the organization.
Plan and execute programs from start to completion including setting objectives, designing processes, program coordination, managing budgets, deliverables, evaluations while maintaining efficient operations.
Assist with creating the annual budget, provide timely, accurate and complete financial reports, on the operating condition of the organization and ensure compliance to all policies.
Implement evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements across the BSO.
Oversee and supervise key functional areas of the organization including people, property, quality, community programs, and IT.
Lead and provide staff with regular performance feedback, while seeking new ways of enhancing efficiency and productivity.
Solicit and analyze reports and plans prepared by staff to determine progress and address emerging issues.
Complete and ensure the regular and timely submission of reports and updates to funders, donors, and board.
Develop and build trusted relationships with key stakeholders within and external to the organization.
Liaising with the company’s legal advisor to ensure all company activities comply with relevant laws.

Your attributes:
Bachelor’s degree in operations management, business administration, or related field.
Minimum of 4 years’ proven experience in an operations management position.
Experience working with Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+ and people with disabilities communities through lived or learned experience.
Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of the BSO.
In-depth knowledge of non-profit governance, administration, and policy issues.
Strong budget development and oversight skills.
Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of operations and customer service.
Proven ability to find methods to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity, reduce costs or improve control measures.
Knowledge of general business software and an aptitude to learn new applications.
Proficiency in Google Suite, particularly Google Sheets, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Experience with Content Management Systems, project management software such as Airtable, and social media platforms.
Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Critical thinking/problem solving skills with demonstrated good judgment.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and be self-motivated in a high pressure and demanding work environment.
Strong attention to detail and a strong analytical mind.
Fully bilingual communication skills preferred.

PLEASE NOTE
For the foreseeable future, work will be done from home with possible occasional small team meetings in person, subject to all public health regulations, and in line with best practices. All employees are required to be fully vaccinated and able to provide official verification before their first day of hire.
